Director of Human Resources

Location: Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada
Magnum Search Group has partnered with a leading and rapidly growing Heavy Equipment sales and rental company. Together we are looking for a Director of Human Resources who will be responsible for the strategic and operational delivery of HR services and support across all 50 Canadian locations and over 500 employees.

The Director of Human Resources Canada will work with field leadership teams to identify, develop, and implement solutions across a range of HR functions including performance management, employee relations, individual development planning, coaching, recruitment, talent management and other key areas.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Partners with senior leadership to develop and drive business practices, change, and HR strategies to support business objectives in Canada.
  • Serves as the key Canadian HR resource that interacts with various HR specialists (i.e., Talent Management, Recruitment, etc.) to ensure the specific initiatives are addressed.
  • Evaluates, implements and supports Human Resources-related programs and activities to help ensure best in class HR support and initiatives. 
  • Builds understands and presents Canadian territory HR data dashboards to drive decision making.
  • Proactively develop talent strategies that attract, retain and develop a highly talented workforce that will drive the success of the business in Canada. 
  • Actively supports regular talent planning and leadership development reviews.  Partner with Regional Vice Presidents and District Leaders to map out talent acquisition and development needs in the region.
  • Implements programs developed in the HR centers of excellence, including talent acquisition, staffing, recruitment, retention, compensation, training and development, succession planning and employee relations.
  • Oversees territory performance management and compensation initiatives to ensure that talent is properly assessed and calibrated. Ensures appropriate competencies are being measured and addressed.  Aligns and partners with Compensation COE.
  • Leads the development and implementation of various programs, policies, and procedures for the HR team. 
  • Ensures compliance with Company policy, procedures and employment laws; takes appropriate action in a dual role of associate advocate and management coach. Manages the administration of policies and procedures to ensure compliance with local, state and federal regulations and corporate policies. 
  • Accountable for creating, fostering, managing, and maintaining an environment of positive employee relations, which drives employee engagement and inclusion.
  • Builds an ongoing process of data-driven decision making to support programs and changes needed within HR. Leverage human resource analytics to drive decision making.
  • Identifies and shares best practices with HR partners across the territory to improve performance and leverage lessons learned. 
  • Leads and develops a highly talented team of HR professionals within the assigned territory.:
Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field, or equivalent work experience, plus 8-10+ years Canadian Human Resources experience, including at least 5 years leading a team
  • Strong project management, analytical, time management and prioritization skills
  • Proven track record of creating and analyzing data for an HR dashboard
  • Attention to detail; excellent written and verbal communication, organizational and presentation skills
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership and relationship building skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work with all levels of staff and management
  • Strong Excel and PowerPoint skills required
  • Successful track record in leading, developing, motivating and retaining a team
  • Must have the ability to make recommendations to effectively resolve problems or issues by using sound judgment that is consistent with business standards, practices, policies, procedures, and regulations
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian law (countrywide, province, etc.) and practical applicability
  • Travel required – up to 50%.  Must spend time in the field with SVP, VPs, and DM driving initiatives.
